École Agnes Davidson School Turkey Bingo night a huge success
École Agnes Davidson School hosted the school’s inaugural Turkey Bingo night on Thursday.
Those who attended had a chance to win one of 20 turkeys from Troy’s No Frills, West Lethbridge. The evening also included 50/50 tickets and exciting celebrity Bingo announcers like country artist Trevor Panczak, Mayor Chris Spearman and the school mascot, Aggie the Dragon!
Silent Auction tables also kept visitors busy bidding on a two-night rental of The Sunset Cottage near Waterton Lakes, tickets to Comedian Jeff Dunham at the Enmax Centre, an iPad mini, Hurricane’s hockey tickets and ‘Bread for a Year’ from Cobs Bread, among other highly-sought-after items.
Proceeds from the Turkey Bingo will go towards building a new playground. As home of Lethbridge’s oldest school playground and one of the only remaining wooden structures, the City has slated the current playground for decommissioning. With the school’s overwhelming growth in the last decade and a student body of over 700 students, the school and local community is in dire need of a playground upgrade and replacement.
The new playground project involves the replacement of the aged wooden playground with an inclusive, innovative and differentiated dragon-themed structure. The playground is located in the heart of the Agnes Davidson neighborhood, supporting the communities of numerous south Lethbridge neighbourhoods, particularly those partitioned by Scenic Drive, such as Tudor Estates, Chinook Heights, and Park Royal.
The cost for new inclusive playground structure, plus resurfacing of the adjoining playground, is significant at $600,000. Before Thursday's bingo, the Agnes Davidson School Parent Fundraising Association has raised just over $200,000 from various grants, donations and other fundraising activities. The goal is to raise the full amount by early 2017 to ensure the new playground is implemented in the summer of 2017.
